Film Posters Featuring Faces

Sweeney Todd
The focal point of the poster is the main character - Sweeney Todd. His facial expression portrays anger and revenge as his piercing eyes are glaring towards the camera deeply, which makes the audience think that Sweeney Todd is gazing at them. His face is very pale which contrasts heavily with the background. Also the pale face conveys that he has gone through suffering and pain, which helps the audience to understand the narrative. The colours within the poster are dark and the saturation level is quite hot - red, black, grey. These colours stereotypically denote the genre of horror as the colours represent danger and fear. There is blood smeared on the title, which subtly portrays to the audience that blood is a key theme in the film. The font of the title looks like blades as it is silver and consists of jagged edges; this also enables the audience to comprehend that the blade is a weapon used throughout the narrative. The tagline demonstrates what the main character is; giving another idea of what the flm is about. The main character is shown to be a barber which would intrigue the audience as it is not a surreal or mythical creature. Making it realistic allows the audience to feel relatable towards the situation and may scare them more as it is not fake. The aim and genre of the film may therefore be more strong and effective. A chair is visible in the bottom middle of the poster. Around the chair image it is black - making it seem as if there are no lights but the main object is in the light. This allows the chair to stand out and it suggests that this is a key commodity in the film. There is wood around the chair on the floor, which makes the room look vintage. This concept shows that the film could be potentially set in the olden days.
